Our History
When planning to maximize your space by adding a wall bed to your home, it is important to understand Murphy bed dimensions and your options for the best fit. There are a few factors that play into the shape and size of a Murphy bed.
You will be able to talk specifics while working with one of our wall bed designers at a Wallbeds n’ More location near you, but let’s take a look at the most common things to consider when finding the best wall bed size and configuration for your space.
Factors for Murphy bed dimensions
- Mattress Size
- Bookshelves or piers
- Desk add-on
- Horizontal or Vertical design
- Model selection
Mattress Size
We offer a variety of wallbed styles that can be made to fit Twin, Twin XL, Full, and Queen mattress sizes. The size of the mattress will impact the overall size and dimensions of the Murphy bed. How do you know what bed size will provide enough space to sleep comfortably? The illustration shown here will give you a visual to compare mattress sizes. We suggest visiting one of our showrooms to see your options in person if you are unsure. Generally, a Queen wall bed is recommended if you or your guests will sleep in pairs.
Piers or Bookshelves
Piers can be added to one or both sides of most all of our wall bed models. These piers can be used for custimizations such as open shelving, cabinets that close, drawers, wardrobes, or a bookshelf Murphy bed design. If you add one or two piers, this will increase the width of the Murphy bed.
Murphy Bed Desk Combo
The addition of a desk feature as part of the wall bed unit allows for the room to be used as a place for study, work, crafts, or household management. Depending on the model you select, a desk may come down from the front of the unit, or it may be on the side creating an L-shape. Be sure to include the desk extension when considering the floor space that will be needed for a wallbed with a desk.
Vertical or Horizontal Murphy Bed
The orientation of the bed along the wall will have an effect on the Murphy bed’s dimensions. Most of our selection has a vertical wallbed design, but we do offer a variety of horizontal Murphy beds as well. The horizontal configuration is great for shallow rooms or when you have a light fixture or ceiling fan that may impede the folding up or putting away of the bed.
