Oh, I remember the excitement, the frustration and the joy when completed, of the home buying process. A nest, if you will, of our own. A sanctuary, serving as the anchor to our day to day lives. The place where dreams are planned and accomplishments celebrated. Home is truly where the heart is – as long as you have the patience and the wallet contents to support it.
The work is endless. Whether it be landscaping around the property, upkeep of the exterior, painting, plumbing and electrical problems demanding an understanding best left to your contractors. One project inevitably leads to the next.
Although my spouse and I are soul mates, our having to work together on home projects can be testing and at times, a comical endeavor. There are projects that have been listed on paper and tossed in a drawer in hopes that it will be forgotten rather than our displaying our penchant as do-it-yourself misfits.
However, there is nothing more rewarding than the times that we’ve set aside our own ego’s and handyman iniquities to stand back and admire something that we’ve accomplished together. It may be as simple as the rearrangement of the furniture, placement of houseplants, a change of carpeting, a space saving adjustment, preparation for visiting relatives or our most recent project, a decorative retaining wall of brick for our flower garden.
The point being is that we did it together (sometimes) and in the process improved the appearance and value of our home. Home ownership truly is a joy.
